Our Baby Story

Well, were wondering and anticipating "the time" I would finally go into labor, and begin the journey to finally having our baby girl. I won't get into the full details, but I broke my water on Friday night. It wasn't a gush like some would describe but rather a trickle. We called our doctor's office and talked to the on call doctor. She said to wait until tomorrow morning, and call the office and talk to the on call doctor then. We called and were told to come in to check and see if it was amniotic fluid. We arrived there with our bags packed just in case. A nurse did one of their tests, and in her own words, "You're staying put." I wasn't in labor or having any contractions so they put me on pitocin. The on call doctor checked me, and I wasn't even 1 cm dilated. It took about 10 hrs for the contractions to get intense. At 12:30pm I was induced and around 8pm I was only dilated by 1 cm. An hour later the contractions were extremely intense and coming a minute apart. Because I was only 1 cm dilated and I knew it was going to be a very long labor, I decided to get an epidural. Some would call me a wimp for getting one, but I have been told that when you are on pitocin the contractions are more intense than if you were in natural labor. I obviously cannot compare the two but, for me the pain was excruciating. Around 12 am I got the epidural, and it worked except for the middle section of my stomach. I still could feel the contractions in that one area. I did not mind though because it was a lot better than having no epidural.
The doctor checked me right after I got the epidural and I was 4 cm dilated. They put an internal monitor to monitor the contractions. Around 4:30am, the contractions were extremely intense from what I could feel from the area that didn't take from the epidural. The nurse checked me and I was fully dilated. At 5:30 amI began pushing, and at 6:44am, Miss Leah Nicole was born.
We are overjoyed that Leah is finally here and we are able to hold her in our arms.

  1. Hello grandchildren and "great" grandchild.
I would like to commend you on two fronts. First, of couse is the beautiful Leah Nicole. What a great job the two of you have done. You have created a work of art. She is absolutely beautiful. She looks very much like all the other little ones I have loved in my lifetime.
My second commendation would be on your website. It is very nice and gives those of us not close enough to visit an opportunity to feel a little less removed from you. I wish you all the very best. You have absolutely no ides of how much love and wonder you will experience as Leah grows. Don't let things like "terrible twos" enter you vocabulary. There is no such thing. Each age and each stage is different and wonderful. Even when your children reach the "old people" stage they are still wonderful and much loved. I am truly blessed and you have just given me one more blessing.
    Love ya...Granny
